At Home with Family Learning

The Irish National Adult Literacy Agency is responsible for literacy programmes within Ireland. The report inquisition, however, notes that “Family learning programmes in Ireland are provided through Vocational Education Committees and are primarily funded under the adult literacy budget.”
“At Home with Family Learning” is an approach based on the development of a booklet which contains a series of practical activities that parents can engage in with their children to help to build their literacy and numeracy skills.
The booklet demonstrates how parents can help their children to practice reading, writing and maths skills in a fun and colourful way. To do this, it provides games and puzzles that have a wide appeal for all age groups as well as information for adults wishing to join a literacy programme – which may be of particular interest to the Mifamily project.
The booklet also includes a section with practical information on what to do if their child needs further support in developing their literacy and numeracy.
