British Council – Interlingua: Respect diversity

This is a framework project for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding developed by the British Council in Romania in partnership with Kultur Kontakt-Austria. The participants in the project were teachers from six schools in Romania: Bucharest, Constanta, Iasi, Braşov, Braila and Odorheiu Secuiesc. Each school formed a team of English, German and Romanian teachers along with their students. Each team worked with local communities and carried out a project on ethnic diversity, intercultural dialogue or multilingualism. The Interlingua project had the following results: methodologies for developing intercultural competences through multilingual teaching and other learning programs; school and community projects aimed at promoting intercultural learning: an intercultural calendar in Braşov, an intercultural mini-dictionary in Constanţa, intercultural guides in Braila and Odorheiu Secuiesc, teaching materials for intercultural learning in Iaşi and an interactive website in Bucharest; integration of intercultural education into the curriculum; an “Interlingua” manual of good practices, published in English, German and Romanian.
