Family Learning in Action is a follow-up to the Family Learning Resource Guide produced by the Clare Family Learning Project in 2000.
All of the ideas outlined in this study/ resource are based on courses that tutors working with Clare Family Learning Project have been delivering to parents over the past few years (and longer).
The descriptions of each course include a full course outline followed by a sample session topic detailing content and suggesting delivery methods. Each session topic also includes a list of literacy and numeracy links.
The original guide focused primarily on the early years of childhood up to the start of the children’s primary school years. This same guide looked at ways to support the emergent literacy and numeracy skills of young children. The ideas in this study/ resource widen the earlier focus to include all the primary school years as well as the transition and settling into second level. This extension and further development of family learning courses to include supporting the
learning of older children is in response to requests from parents and teachers.
