Family Learning works: Family learning, social cohesion and community involvement
NATECLA (The National Association for Teaching English and Community Languages to Adults) explains the benefits of family learning reported by its members:
Families who have attended family learning courses are better able to integrate into their communities, particularly the school communities and within children’s centres. They are also more confident when participating within the wider society. Many families for whom English is not their first language feel isolated and unable to communicate. They are also not knowledgeable enough about the school system here to be able to support their children effectively. This document stresses the importance of working with community-based organisations and contains links to a number of videos showing the wider community engagement work that is done by supplementary schools
