Migration’s impact on parenthood: reality or representations?

In July 2012, the Regional Observatory of Integration and the Town of Alsace published a document tackling the impact of immigration on parenthood. It is demonstrated that most of the immigrants’ parents tend to give up the schoolings’ follow-up. However, their role in the socialisation’s process is essential and, this is the reason why the public policies decided to take measures and specific actions.
One of these measures was the Welcome and Integration Contract in 2007, which engages both parents to follow a training about their rights and duties in France and the parents’ authority. Another one is to open school to those parents to succeed the integration of both: parents and children. Finally, the Regional Program of the immigrant’s population, which aims to support the parents and encourage them to participate actively in their children’s schooling. On the daily basis, it mainly consists of talking groups, where they can exchange, receive advice, share information and valorise their skills.
