National Assembly report about relations between school and families

It is observed that relationships between school and parents have been complicated for a long time. However, because this relationship is key to the success of tomorrow’s school, the Committee on Cultural Affairs and Education took over in 2013 the task of researching this relationship, following the orientation law and programming for the Republican’ school’ reconstruction. Its report, introducing 25 suggestions, was submitted to the National Assembly in 2014. The purpose here was to raise awareness and, establish an in-depth appraisal of the current situation, in order to benefit from a better understanding and, think about which improvement can subsequently be made. Each of these propositions aims to involve parents. For instance, it is recommended to create an official status for parents that will allow them to participate to the board of directors, to communicate even more with parents (through exchanges, the creation of “parents’ spaces”, programs, etc.). It is also suggested to institute the presence of mediators and a training course for teachers in order to encourage the pedagogical inclusion of parents and to set up a coeducation, which is essential.
