The operation « Opening Schools to parents for successful integration » (OEPRE) is conducted in partnership between the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of National Education. It was set up on an experimental basis in 12 departments in 2008-2009 and has since expanded nationally to 70 departments.
It aims to foster the integration of pupil’s foreign parents newcomers residing in France through 3 main axes :
1 – The acquisition of French (oral language, learning or development), via the four skills (understand, speak, read and write).
2 – Better knowledge of the School’s operations and expectations of students and parents.
3 – Knowledge of the values of the Republic (freedom, equality, fraternity, secularism, right to education …) and their implementation in French society, especially in everyday social practices.
The operation was aimed at immigrant or foreign parents, pupils from countries other than those of the European Union volunteers. Since the last circular of 2014, it is primarily aimed at foreign parents newly arrived volunteers.
Teaching is based on concrete documents and exchanges between peers as learning levers.
