This is the Basque official intercultural education policy that frames the intervention with immigrant families at school in this region. The plan has six main strategic action areas, number two and number 5 accommodate some objectives and actions related to immigrant students and their families and the role played by the education system and other public services and resources. Within the second strategic action area of this Program, objective 2.3 seeks to reinforce institutional coordination to adequate schooling demands to individual and collective situations. This objective covers the following actions:
– Providing integral attention (Social, Education, and existing support and counselling services) to new arrivals students and their families;
– examining education needs of families’ environment;
– boosting participatory channels from school to local social agents (those supporting refugees accommodation and promoting intercultural approaches).
The strategic action area 5 also treats aspects related to immigrant families and the role played by the school and education, it points to: continue covering inclusion education activities into the training curriculum aimed at directive teams, teachers and families at the school centers. One of its action lines is the implementation of successful education and participation practices at school through Parents’ Associations.
