Schooling of sub-Saharan’s migrants’ children in Fance
In 2012, the NGO Grdr’ published a study “Schooling of sub-Saharan’s migrants’ children in France”. Through this study, three objectives were set: identity levers’ academic success of sub-Saharans’ youth, evaluate the difficulties encountered by this latter (according to cultural, socio-economical, environmental variables) and, identify the solutions in order to overcome them. For that purpose, an analyse of the different types of socialisation, the diversity of the backgrounds and interactions between associations, families and teachers was made. The role of the local associations and the diverse measures are highlighted but the importance of communication is also pointed out, especially communication with the family (thanks to mediation). More generally, this in-depth study allows a better understanding of African’s families and their relation to school. Therefore, parents can benefit from a good support, which makes them perceive the stakes and codes of the educational institutions and fight against school failure.
