Understanding the Challenges of Immigration for Education
This report was developed by the Irish government. The report aims to help aid understanding of the nature and extent of key educational challenges presented by immigration. More specifically, it focuses on Ireland’s experience by assessing the nature of those educational challenges and examining the responses which have been introduced to address them. To facilitate broader understanding of this issue, this report also draws on international experience. The report indicates a number of elements related to education for migrants already identified in information gathered for IO1, including English language needs , parents and language acquisition, measures to support the language and culture of origin, etc. The report notes that attention should be paid to the areas of translation and interpretation, especially at local level.
