What parents say about Hua Hsia Chinese School
Founded in 2011 by four mothers who decided to set up their own supplementary school, HuaHsia offers classes in Mandarin language and a range of cultural activities including dancing, cooking, origami, calligraphy, maths using abacus, and martial arts. They also provide Chinese language classes for adults. In total 250 children and young people aged from 6 months to 19 years attend the supplementary school. Approximately 40% have a Chinese heritage but most do not and represent a diverse range of ethnic groups.
This video shows the importance of maintaining home language but also the importance of language learning in general.
